California Notary Public Education
Red Tape Academy has prepared a six-hour initial notary public education course and a three-hour refresher course, each offered in classroom and online delivery, built directly on the Government Code, the Civil Code, and the Secretary of State’s Notary Public Handbook.
Approval status. These courses have been submitted to the California Secretary of State for approval under Title 2, California Code of Regulations, section 20800. Enrollment is not open. No course offered by Red Tape Academy satisfies the notary public education requirement of Government Code section 8201 unless and until the Secretary of State issues a certificate of approval for that course of study.

How the courses are built
- Every required minute is scheduled and tracked by subject area, audio-visual aid, participation activity, and knowledge check.
- Online delivery verifies student identity before timed instruction begins and records attendance for the full required time.
- Each statement of law is tied to its governing section, so students learn the authority and not only the rule.
