How the courses are written
Courses are written from primary sources. Every statement of law is tied to the Government Code, Civil Code, or Code of Civil Procedure section that governs it, and is checked against the current California Notary Public Handbook published by the Secretary of State. Students are taught the authority alongside the rule, because a notary who knows only the rule cannot recognize when a situation falls outside it.
Course delivery and oversight
Red Tape Academy maintains the course content, delivery schedule, compliance controls, attendance requirements, records, and proof-of-completion process for its notary public education programs.
Classroom sessions may be delivered by instructors authorized by Red Tape Academy through an Authorized Training Provider. Instructors and providers must use Red Tape Academy course materials and the required delivery schedule without unauthorized changes and may not provide legal advice on behalf of Red Tape Academy.
Online courses are delivered through Red Tape Academy’s learning system using identity, timing, completion, and proof controls.
The program administrator maintains Red Tape Academy’s course-approval records, attendee and completion records, responses to the Secretary of State, and course change control.
Approval status
Red Tape Academy’s notary public education courses have been submitted to the California Secretary of State for approval under Title 2, California Code of Regulations, section 20800. No course offered by Red Tape Academy satisfies the notary public education requirement of Government Code section 8201 unless and until the Secretary of State issues a certificate of approval for that course of study.
