California Notary Public Education
A six-hour initial course and a three-hour refresher course, each offered in classroom delivery and online delivery. Instruction is built on the Government Code, the Civil Code, and the Secretary of State’s Notary Public Handbook, with every statement of law tied to its governing section.

Enrollment is not open. These courses have been submitted to the California Secretary of State for approval under Title 2, California Code of Regulations, section 20800. No course offered by Red Tape Academy satisfies the notary public education requirement of Government Code section 8201 unless and until the Secretary of State issues a certificate of approval for that course of study.
